( 14.5" L x 14” W x 22" H)
This StarSentient® sculpture is named after the star, Sadalbari, a red-orange giant with a luminosity brightness (luminosity) figure over fifty-nine times that of our Sun (which has a 1.0 luminosity) and 2.5 times larger. It lies within the massive Pegasus constellation “very close” at 113 light-year approximately from our system. Sadalbari appears so bright in part because it’s light combines with a star much deeper in space “behind” it that is of a similar type and very close by.
The name, Sadalbari, comes from the medieval Arabic astronomy meaning, “The Lucky Star of the Splendid One.” and preserved and in science through ancient Persian science written tradition. Other mythic or cultural references are unknown.
This is just the second sculpture that I have made to sit on a pedestal or tabletop. It is made with a base of broad, multi-finger design in scarlet-yellow uranium glass, with a uranium glass sphere centrally mounted upon a nodal rod. With UV light activation, it “turns on” into a brilliant, bright green color unique to uranium glass that congruently complements it’s ancient name’s meaning.
